I’d like to share my inspiring journey at Trent University.
In October 2022, I connected with Ms. Cath D’Amico on LinkedIn to express my interest in becoming an Education Agent for Trent University and enrolling in their Postgraduate Certificate program in Entrepreneurship & Marketing. Trent’s unique 8-month (2-semester) program perfectly aligned with my goals as an educational entrepreneur.
On November 11, 2022, I visited Trent’s main campus in Peterborough and was warmly welcomed by Ms. Cath. The next day, I toured the Durham campus, which initially caught my attention for its proximity to Toronto and modern setup.
By March 31, 2023, I submitted my admission application. I promptly secured my offer of admission , but my study permit approval caused a delay. Finally, on September 14, 2023, I arrived at the Peterborough campus. I stayed off-campus, initially walking 6 km to class daily, despite having a bus pass.
I efficiently structured my schedule for the first semester, balancing classes in Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Financial Accounting, Managerial Market Research, and Social Enterprise & Innovation. I immersed myself in campus life, attending rugby and soccer matches at Justin Chiu Stadium and participating in numerous events like the Annual Scarf Ceremony at Otonabee College on October 18, 2023.
Although I faced homesickness, the Rebound Program offered support. The professors were incredibly resourceful, connecting students with industry experts and alumni through sessions like “Meet the CEO.” I actively participated in the Pitch It event and earned eligibility for the Enactus Canada Student Entrepreneur National Competition.
November marked the end of the semester, culminating in the $100 Startup Showcase on November 21, where my team project won 2nd place. Alongside academics, I stayed active by running 5-10 km daily and swimming at the Excalibur indoor pool.
After completing my semester exams in December, I returned to India for a short break before beginning my second semester in January 2024.
In January, I applied for Trent’s Master of Management program and further engaged in campus life, attending events like the First Nations Elders Gathering, blood donation camps, and open houses. Through active participation in over 10 activities, I earned the Gzowski College Certificate (only 6 are required) and prestigious awards like the Scott Rennie Memorial Spirit Medal and Bob Annet Prize, becoming the sole recipient of both honors.
I joined the Open House Welcome Committee in February, assisting prospective students and their families. After my mid-term and reading break in Montreal, I welcomed new students to Trent with great enthusiasm.
By April, I wrapped up the semester with a Spirit of Trent Award, an impressive academic performance of 77.77%, an admission offer for the Master of Management program and obtaining a postgraduate work permit valid until 22 November 2025
My journey at Trent University has been a transformative experience filled with academic achievements, personal growth, and meaningful connections that I’ll cherish forever.
